National Unity Platform leader, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, has called out the World Bank for halting loans to Uganda over the Anti-Homosexuality law.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the World Bank stated that Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality law contradicts its core values. Consequently, the Bank said that Uganda should not seek financial assistance.

Bobi Wine has voiced his perspective on the matter, accusing institutions such as the World Bank of prioritizing gay rights while overlooking other grave human rights violations, which include acts like mass murder, torture, and arbitrary detention.

Taking to Twitter, the singer-turned-politician said, “It’s disconcerting how institutions like these focus solely on gay rights, disregarding other alarming human rights violations like mass murder, torture, unwarranted detention, and undermining democratic processes through election manipulation. Dear @WorldBank, all human rights are equal.”

On Wednesday, President Museveni said that World Bank should not coerce African countries into pushing the gay agenda. He said that Uganda will continue its development trajectory with or without external loans, emphasizing the country’s determination to progress independently.
