Ugandan activist and Executive Director of UNAIDS, Winnie Byanyima, has criticized a security guard’s actions after he called the police on her while she was working out in a park.

Byanyima, who resides in England, expressed her frustration on social media regarding the treatment she endured during her routine exercise.

“I’ve had enough of racist harassment. For three years I’ve lived in a building with this private park. Security constantly targets me just for exercising in our park,” Byanyima said in her post.

She lamented that the police treated her as an intruder in her own space.

The incident sparked a wave of shock on social media. Users shared their own stories of racial profiling and harassment by authorities based on their skin colour. Some urged Byanyima to return to her homeland, while others expressed disbelief that such incidents still occur.

Byamukama Julius commented, “Why should Africans be embarrassed all the time outside Africa, while white people are treated with care when they come to Africa? I once witnessed soldiers from an undisclosed embassy in Uganda damaging a car tire of a high-ranking officer of the UPDF. Why?”

Moze Serugo pointed out, “Don’t they know you’re the UNAIDS ED?”

Emmanuel Dombo asked, “Sorry about that. How did it end?”

Emma Kasaija wrote, “The sad bit is that these are the same people who will have the guts to talk about discrimination, equality, democracy.”

Okware Daniel expressed, “You see, you are busy pushing their agenda of homosexuality in Africa. Style up and stand for African values.”
