As the days draw near for this year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), one school in Hoima is making its final preparations for its solitary candidate registered to sit for the exams.

Budaka Primary School’s Head Teacher, Joseph Baimuka, explained that they initially had four candidates, but three of them opted to register for their PLE exams with private schools, leaving the school with only one candidate.

To avoid having their center number cancelled by the Uganda National Examination Board, the school had to request nearby schools to register their pupils at their center.

“We have 45 pupils who will be sitting for the exams from our school, but they are not our regular pupils,” stated the Head Teacher during an interview on NTV.

Concerning the readiness of their lone candidate, the Head Teacher explained that due to limited staff—comprising only six teachers, including himself—the school faces challenges. Consequently, they have had to facilitate the candidate’s learning alongside Primary Six pupils.

“With just one teacher assigned to teach all subjects in a particular class,” said the Head Teacher.

Nevertheless, despite these challenges, the school remains hopeful that their candidate will perform well.

The PLE exams are scheduled to take place from November 7 to November 9.
