The documentary “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” highlighting the life of National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader Robert Kyagulanyi, has secured the top award at the 39th International Documentary Association’s (IDA) Awards.

Directed by Christopher Sharp and Moses Bwayo, this observational film represents a six-year dedication to portraying Kyangulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, and his journey challenging the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni.

Now part of National Geographic, the documentary explores the singer-turned-politician’s use of music as a tool for activism and his role as an Independent Member of Parliament advocating for the rights of the people.

At the virtual ceremony held on Tuesday, December 12, Bwayo expressed gratitude to those who played a crucial role in creating the film.

“Thank you for this incredible honour and news. Bobi Wine, the People’s President, has been a labor of love, six years in the making; this recognition is a blessing and testament to those fighting for freedom, justice, and democracy,” he said.

The IDA Documentary Awards commend exceptional achievements in the documentary genre each year, acknowledging excellence from both emerging and established documentarians worldwide.
