Former URA Commissioner General Doris Akol has been appointed a senior economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Akol’s appointment was announced by the League of East African Directors (LEAD), of which she is a member.

Before her latest appointment, Akol served as a Technical Assistance Advisor at the IMF, a position she assumed in 2021. Before joining the IMF, she was a partner at Dentons’ Kampala office.

Akol, a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Makerere University, as well as a postgraduate Diploma in Law Practice obtained from the Law Development Centre. She also earned a Master of Laws degree from McGill University in Canada.

After graduating from the Law Development Centre in 1994, she spent one year at Price Waterhouse Coopers at their Kampala offices. In 1995, she joined URA as a Legal Officer. From 2012 to 2014, Doris Akol served as the Commissioner for Legal Services and Board Affairs at the Uganda Revenue Authority. In that capacity, she also served as the Company’s Legal Secretary.

In October 2014, she was appointed Commissioner General at URA, assuming office on October 30, 2014.

On March 29, 2020, Akol was relieved of her duties at URA, and John Musinguzi Rujoki was named as her replacement.

During her tenure, she oversaw the construction of URA’s 18-floor headquarters building at Nakawa.
