The 2023 Uganda Certificate Examinations (UCE) Results have been released today by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) at a function held at State House Nakasero. A total of 349,459 candidates registered for the exams.

Dan Odongo, the Executive Secretary of UNEB, stated that the performance in the UCE 2023 examinations is significantly better than that of 2022. He mentioned that the failure rate dropped by 0.5%.

“Therefore, 95.9% (329,939) of the candidates who sat for the UCE have progressed to the post-UCE level,” said Odongo.

Odongo noted that female candidates outperformed males in the English Language, while males performed better in History, Geography, the Sciences, and Commerce.

“Overall, male candidates performed better than their female counterparts, a trend that has persisted,” he said.

Odongo further revealed that the 2003 exams are the last exams administered under the old curriculum. Starting in October 2024, examinations will be set under the new curriculum.

The first term for Senior Five commences on March 11, 2024.

The Minister of Education and Sports, First Lady Janet Museveni, stated that while the ministry celebrates the reduction of student absenteeism, there is a need to establish the cause so that the government can eradicate it.

Meanwhile, candidates, their parents, and any other person wishing to access results may do so through their mobile phones. They should go to the ‘Message’ menu and type UCE, leave a space, and type the correct index number of the candidate; for example, U0000/001. Send it to 6600.
