If the First Son, who also doubles as the Commander of the Defense Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, formally announces his intention to run for president, Doreen Nyanjura, the deputy mayor of Kampala, has vowed to be on the ballot for president in the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on NTV’s Mwasuze Mutya show, Nyanjura claimed that there are things she cannot accept happening in Uganda.

“President Museveni cannot rule us for all these years and then be followed by his son. I have already declared that in case Muhoozi contests, I will stand for the presidency against him. Again, Uganda is not a kingdom,” Nyanjura said.

Nyanjura believes that if the Electoral Commission organizes free and fair elections, Muhoozi cannot defeat her.

“Those who come from a humble background should stop underrating themselves. Your background doesn’t matter if you know what you want in life,” she said.

It should be noted that Muhoozi has consistently hinted about his desire to run for president despite still being an army officer, which is against Ugandan law.

Earlier this year, he launched a political pressure group, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), where he is the chairman. PLU has gone ahead to hold various mobilization activities across the country.
