Three Members of Parliament are being detained at Kira Police Division following their arrest on Tuesday.

MPs Cissy Namujju (Lwengo WMP), Yusuf Mutembuli (Bunyole West), and Paul Akamba (Busiki County) were detained after appearing before the Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) in Kibuli, where they had been summoned over ongoing corruption investigations.

The ongoing probe by the CID follows President Yoweri Museveni’s revelation that Parliament and Finance Ministry staff were running a racket to influence budget processes.

On Tuesday, armed security officers searched the homes of Namujju and Mutembuli, who is the deputy chair of Parliament’s Legal Committee, in Kigo, Entebbe, and Bukaasa, Kira, respectively. After the search, they were taken back into custody at Kira Division Police.

This website has also learned that the CID has summoned more MPs, Parliament staff, and Finance Ministry officials over ongoing corruption investigations. The Parliament staff on the list are said to have received billions of shillings in their personal accounts. The money was to cater for corporate social responsibility activities.

The summoned individuals, who are yet to be revealed, will appear at the CID headquarters in Kibuli on Thursday to answer corruption queries.
