Nyendo-Mukungwe Member of Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, has said that he has the capability to serve as the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) or even the President of Uganda. Mpuuga made the revelation during his thanksgiving event in Masaka on Friday.

According to the former Leader of Opposition (LoP), after serving three terms as MP, he has equipped himself with enough experience that makes him fit to occupy more top offices in the country.

“Many of you must be wondering what’s my next step. Some wonder, do I want to be NUP president? Others ask, do I want to be the President of Uganda? Let me say it today, I am capable of being both,” said Mpuuga.

He urged fellow political leaders who are still yearning for change to work together and stop clashing. Mpuuga’s comments come amidst the ‘Service Award’ scandal, which has dominated the news for the last two months.

Mpuuga and three other NRM Commissioners are accused of allocating themselves Shs1.7 billion as a ‘Service Award.’ The former Leader of Opposition reportedly received Shs500 million, while the other commissioners – Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central), Esther Afoyochan (Zombo Woman), and Prossy Mbabazi (Rubanda Woman) – received Shs400 million each.

NUP, led by Robert Kyagulanyi, reacted to the scandal by sacking Mpuuga from his position as party deputy president. The party also tried to remove him as their commissioner in parliament, but the move was rejected by Speaker Anita Among.
