The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperative, Geraldine Ssali, has been summoned by Criminal Investigations Department of the police in relation to disbursement of funds meant for compensation of cooperative societies.

Ssali is supposed to report at Kibuli with her top management team that worked on the disbursement of Ssh164bn meant for cooperatives.

She was implicated by report of the Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Tourism and Industry which questioned the disbursement to non-claimants.

Ssali is faulted by a recent parliamentary report, as one of those people who mismanaged money meant for cooperatives after she undermined the Inter-ministerial Committee established by advice of Cabinet and set up her own in MTIC.

One of the beneficiaries of this money is Bwavu Mpologoma Cooperative to which her husband one Busuulwa is connected.

Government gave Bwavu Mpologoma Ssh2.7bn in November 2021.

While meeting the parliamentary committee, Ssali said the payments were made before she was appointed the Trade Ministry accounting officer.

However, MPs recommended that Ssali and other public servants be interdicted to pave way for investigations.

Ssali joins a list of politicians majorly legislators who are already facing criminal charges related to corruption.

Police yesterday interrogated Kachumbula MP Patrick Isiagi Opolot, the chairman of the Budget Committee and several Parliament clerks.
