Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame is poised for a landslide victory in the country’s presidential election, with early results showing him leading with an overwhelming 99.15% of the vote.

According to the National Electoral Commission (NEC), over 7 million votes have been counted, with Kagame’s closest competitor, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party, trailing far behind with just 0.53% of the vote.

Independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana has secured 0.32% of the vote. The election saw a remarkable 98% voter turnout, highlighting the significance of the poll to the Rwandan people.

While the final results are expected to be announced on July 27, Kagame’s victory appears all but certain.

This would grant him a fourth term in office, solidifying his position as Rwanda’s dominant political leader. The NEC is expected to announce provisional results by July 20 and final results by July 27.
