National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, has dared President Yoweri Museveni to waive his immunity in writing so they can face each other in court over Museveni’s claims that NUP rigged the 2021 presidential election by one million votes.

In a letter dated September 15 and addressed to President Museveni, Bobi Wine states that they have evidence Museveni rigged the elections.

The NUP leader says that since Museveni challenged them to take him to court following his claims of rigging, he is ready to do so, but certain conditions must be met.

“Waive your immunity so that we meet in court,” reads part of Bobi Wine’s letter.

The former presidential candidate also dared Museveni to agree to an independent, transparent election audit presided over by an international agency.

“If the results of the audit prove that we engaged in any form of election rigging, we should be prosecuted,” Bobi Wine stated in the letter.

He added, “If the audit finds that you (Museveni) rigged, you should step down and allow the people of Uganda to be led by a person of their choosing.”

Last week, during a thanksgiving service for the late General Aronda Nyakairima, Museveni claimed to have concrete evidence that NUP rigged the 2021 presidential election by one million votes. He explained that the vote rigging was facilitated by electoral agents at polling stations. He challenged them to take him to court, expressing his readiness to testify with evidence.

Museveni won the 2021 presidential election with over 6 million votes, while Bobi Wine came second with over 3 million votes.
