A 50-year-old woman, Ephrance Kobusingye, and her 62-year-old husband, Eclesensiyo Tunanukye, have welcomed their five newborn babies (Quintuplets): three boys and two girls.

The couple, who hail from Nyaruhanda Village in Kitagwenda District, says they have been searching for a child for 32 years until they decided to undergo the in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure.

For starters, during in vitro fertilization, mature eggs are collected from the ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. Then a procedure is done to place one or more of the fertilized eggs, called embryos, in a uterus, where babies develop.

The woman carried the babies for seven months until she developed complications, and doctors at NeoCare Specialised Hospital and Fertility Centre in Mbarara conducted an operation before placing the newborns in the incubator.

The hospital stated that the babies are now in stable condition as they are currently being incubated at Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital in Mbarara. The mother did not experience any further complications after the operation.

The new parents have urged the public to financially support them, as they cannot do it on their own due to their advanced age. Kobusingye is a housewife, while her husband is a retired primary school teacher.
