President Yoweri Museveni has revealed plans to have two roads constructed in the Central African Republic (CAR) to link Uganda with CAR.

Speaking during the 62nd Independence Day celebrations at Busikho Primary Teachers’ College in Busia District, Museveni said that, together with his Central African Republic counterpart, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, they will engage the leadership of the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan to allow the roads to connect through their countries.

Museveni stated that the infrastructure project will strengthen regional trade and integration.

“Together with the Central African Republic, we want to persuade the governments of Congo and South Sudan to construct a road from Arua [in Uganda] through Congo to Obo, and another connecting Yei, Yeribi, and Yambio in South Sudan to CAR,” he said.

In addition to road development, Museveni urged Uganda Airlines to explore direct flights to Bangui, CAR’s capital, to strengthen socio-economic ties and improve regional air connectivity.

The President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, who attended the celebrations, praised Museveni for transforming Uganda into a beacon of stability.

This is not the first time Uganda is collaborating to build roads in a foreign country. The government is currently building 1,200 kilometers of roads from Uganda to the three eastern Congo cities: Goma, Bunia, and Beni.
