Alex Luganda, a renowned lawyer and the Attorney General of Busoga Kingdom, has been appointed to the World Compliance and Mediation Commission of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Luganda, who also serves as the head of the Busoga Kingdom Land Board and sits on the board of the Red Cross, shared the news via his social media, expressing overwhelming joy.

“Thrilled to be appointed to the World Compliance and Mediation Commission (IFRC) for the next four years,” he said.

The appointment was made by the 191 member states of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement during their General Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The IFRC is the world’s largest humanitarian network, uniting Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies across the globe to support vulnerable communities before, during, and after disasters.

Luganda’s new role as a member of the Compliance and Mediation Commission comes with a four-year term, where he will oversee issues related to the organization’s adherence to international regulations and mediate disputes within the movement.

Reflecting on this honor, Luganda dedicated the achievement to his late brother Patrick, who had been a key influence in his career and personal development. “I am overwhelmed with joy and I dedicate this victory to my late brother and mentor, Patrick Nkono Luganda, who prepared and encouraged me to take on these international sojourns,” Luganda stated in his post.

Luganda’s legal expertise and leadership in various capacities, including his former role as head of the legal department of FUFA, make him a valuable asset to the global humanitarian efforts of the IFRC. His appointment reflects the international recognition of his contributions to legal and humanitarian causes, especially in governance and compliance.

The IFRC, with its network of 191 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, plays a crucial role in addressing global humanitarian challenges. It responds to disasters and health emergencies, supporting vulnerable populations worldwide.
