The Internal Affairs Minister, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire, has refuted claims linking him to a controversial nine-storey apartment building in Kazo Central Zone, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District. The building, which residents allege partially obstructs an access road, has become a source of tension in the community.
Local property owners accuse Gen Otafiire of owning the property and ignoring their repeated calls to address the issue of pillars blocking the road. However, the minister categorically denied any connection to the property in a tweet on December 27.
“I do not own any land in Nansana. I have never owned land there, nor would I even dig a grave in that area. If the building is mine, let them demolish it and see if I raise any objection,” Gen Otafiire stated.
He attributed the allegations to detractors seeking to tarnish his name. “These are tactics by my enemies. Being a public figure comes with these kinds of baseless accusations,” he added.
The dispute dates back to 2018, when the construction of the building allegedly encroached on the community’s access road. Frustrated residents claim their efforts to resolve the matter through local authorities have yielded no results, leaving them stranded and aggrieved.
The National Building Review Board has vowed to act upon receiving a formal complaint.
“Blocking an access road with construction is a clear violation of the law. Once a complaint is lodged, we’ll dispatch a team to investigate and take appropriate action,” stated Herbert Zziwa, the board’s spokesperson.
