Police in Rukungiri District are investigating an incident where unknown assailants attacked a police officer and made off with his firearm, including 30 rounds of ammunition.

The officer, identified as PC Adriko Bernard of the Field Force Unit (FFU) at Rukungiri Police Station, was reportedly on guard duty at the Kabale University Rukungiri branch when the attack occurred. The assailants are said to have severely beaten him before seizing his firearm.

Following the incident, PC Adriko reported the matter to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Buyanja Police Station, who promptly alerted authorities at Rukungiri Central Police Station.

“We are doing everything possible to recover the stolen firearm and ammunition,” SSP Kyangungu said. “The public should remain calm as we are committed to maintaining law and order in the district. There is no cause for alarm.”

A case of aggravated robbery has been officially registered at Buyanja Police Station, and the police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects.
