A group of unidentified thugs who allegedly stole over Shs25 million and other valuables from the owner of Best Rates Forex Bureau in Ntinda narrowly escaped police arrest last evening.

The operation was launched after Echodu Daniel, the owner of a forex bureau at Capital Shoppers, alerted the police that he had spotted individuals suspected of stealing valuables from his vehicle on August 23, 2024. The stolen items included Shs23.4 million, two Apple watches worth Shs3.5 million, three original land agreements, UAP insurance cards, and business cards from Best Rates Forex Bureau.

Upon receiving the report, the police dispatched a team to the scene to verify the claims and apprehend the suspects. However, the suspects attempted to evade capture, speeding away in their vehicle.

Despite officers shooting at their tires in an effort to stop them, the suspects continued driving before ultimately abandoning their car on Commercial Road and fleeing on foot.

A subsequent search of the abandoned vehicle, a dark blue Toyota Harrier with registration number UBQ 618M, led to the discovery of several incriminating exhibits, including a pair of alternative number plates (UBN 127F), master keys, a number plate fixer, breaking tools, a power bank, clothing items, a rolled stick of opium, a matchbox, and a black laptop bag.

The police have launched further investigations to track down the fugitives, urging the public to provide any relevant information that could lead to their arrest.
