The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, has said that they are pleased to observe firsthand the enthusiasm with which Ugandans have embraced the National Voters’ Register Update Exercise.

According to Byabakama, despite the challenges faced since the commencement of the update exercise on January 20, over 360,000 new voters have been added to the National Voters’ Register, while 292,021 applications for transfers have been made.

Byabakama stated that the ongoing extension of the exercise is intended to ensure that all eligible unregistered voters complete their registration.

The extension began on Tuesday, February 11, and will run until Monday, February 17, 2025.

The EC chairperson urged those who have yet to register or change their voting locations to do so, as there will be no further extensions.

The exercise is being conducted at the parish level and runs from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day, including weekends.

Byabakama applauded the strong support from various stakeholders in assisting EC staff to ensure the success of the exercise.

As of Monday, February 10, the National Voters’ Register stood at 19,925,574 voters, up from the 18,103,603 voters registered for the 2020/2021 General Elections.
