Police in Kasangati have arrested Ndamuwa Joseph, a security guard who allegedly turned against his employer and robbed him of Shs79 million.

The incident occurred on Friday, February 14, at Mukadwe Hardware in Kasangati, Wakiso.

Speaking to the media during the weekly security briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire stated that the suspect was attached to Detailed Security Services.

Owoyesigire explained that the employer was on his way to Standard Chartered Bank to deposit the money when the security guard turned against him, grabbed the cash, and fled on a motorcycle.

The employer quickly alerted Kasangati Police Station, prompting officers to pursue the suspect, who was intercepted at Naalya Roundabout.

According to Owoyesigire, the police recovered Shs70,545,000 and a firearm. The suspect was taken to Kasangati Police Station, where investigations are ongoing and efforts to recover the missing money continue.

Meanwhile, police have issued a warning about new tactics used by criminals posing as bank customers to track individuals withdrawing large sums of cash.

Authorities report a rise in robberies targeting bank clients who withdraw significant amounts of money. Criminals, often riding motorcycles, follow unsuspecting victims and ambush them along roads, demanding cash. In many cases, they injure or kill those who resist.

The police urge the public to seek security escorts when withdrawing or transporting large sums of money to prevent such attacks.
