The late Ssegirinya Muhammad’s widows, led by Twahirah Akandinda, have endorsed National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi as their preferred candidate in the upcoming Kawempe North by-election.

The widows said their husband, who held the seat before passing away in January this year, was a staunch NUP member and supporter. They stated that they cannot go against the NUP party’s decision, which is why they are supporting the party’s candidate.

The widows also said they cannot support Luswa Luwemba, their late husband’s former personal assistant, as he decided to go against the NUP party’s decision.

They handed over files containing details of the projects Ssegirinya was working on in Kawempe North.

Nalukoola pledged to complete all the projects that the late Ssegirinya had undertaken in Kawempe North.

“We remain committed to supporting them emotionally during this difficult time. We reassured them that, together, we can fulfill the dreams our friend had for Kawempe North,” Nalukoola said.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party (DP) has announced Henry Kasacca as their flagbearer in the upcoming Kawempe North by-election. The announcement was made on Tuesday at the party headquarters in Namirembe, Kampala.

The party president, Norbert Mao, handed over the party’s instruments to Kasacca, who promised to secure victory.

The Electoral Commission will conduct the nomination of candidates on February 27 and 28. The by-election is scheduled for March 13.
