The National Unity Platform (NUP) has issued a stern ultimatum to its estranged members, giving them a 30-day window to return to the party secretariat and resolve any outstanding internal disputes—or face expulsion as the 2026 general elections draw closer.

The directive was announced Tuesday by NUP Deputy President for the Buganda Region, Muwanga Kivumbi, during a mobilization meeting with central region party leaders at the party’s headquarters in Kampala.

Kivumbi criticized a number of Members of Parliament for straying from party ideals, warning that unless they re-engage with the party leadership within the next month, they risk being replaced.

“We’re giving our rebel MPs only 30 days to come back and resolve their issues with the party leadership. If they don’t, it will be too late,” Kivumbi cautioned. “We need to begin preparations early—this time we’re targeting more than 100 parliamentary seats.”

Among the MPs named were Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe), Abed Bwanika (Kimananya-Kabonera), Bashir Kazibwe (Kawempe South), and Twaha Kagabo (Bukoto South), all of whom the party accuses of disobeying official party positions.

NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, said that the party will not hesitate to field new candidates against sitting MPs who fail to realign with the party’s vision.

“We need candidates who are vetted, trusted, tested, and dependable,” Bobi Wine told party leaders.

He added, “We will not tolerate leadership that goes against the people’s core values. This election, we are going all out to defeat the National Resistance Movement (NRM) from the presidency down to the village level.”

Stressing the need for “servant leadership,” Bobi Wine accused some current MPs of betraying their voters.

“When you don’t deliver on the promises made to the people, you behave no differently from a thief,” he said. “That mistake won’t happen again. We will be extremely vigilant this time.”

The party leadership says this early warning is part of a broader strategy to tighten internal discipline and reinforce unity, as NUP ramps up preparations for what it promises will be a fierce and focused campaign against the regime.
