Mityana District Woman Member of Parliament, Joyce Bagala, has said that she’s open to asking for forgiveness but insists that her party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), should clarify what exactly she is supposed to apologize for.

Speaking on NBS TV’s Eagle show on Sunday, Bagala, who said she has not been at the NUP party headquarters in Makerere-Kavule for over four months, noted that although asking for forgiveness is humane, her concern is why she is being asked to apologize.

“What wrong have I committed? I have been doing my job diligently. I have no issues with my party. I am still on track,” Bagala said.

She added, “I have never voted for or supported President Museveni. What I don’t understand is what crime I have committed.”

Bagala is one of the NUP ‘rebel’ MPs who were singled out and given a stern ultimatum of 30 days to return to the party secretariat and resolve any outstanding internal disputes—or face expulsion as the 2026 general elections draw closer.

These estranged members also include Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe), Abed Bwanika (Kimananya-Kabonera), Bashir Kazibwe (Kawempe South), and Twaha Kagabo (Bukoto South).

According to the party, the group has repeatedly disobeyed official party positions.

While on the show, Bagala claimed that she has sided with the party on everything. She cited recent events, including the alternative budget reading and the controversial Shs100 million given to each MP.

Bagala had worked closely with Mpuuga before NUP replaced him with Joel Ssenyonyi as Leader of Opposition in 2023. During the same period, NUP asked Bagala to step down from her position as head of the Government Assurances and Implementation Committee. She did not step down, and Speaker Anita Among rejected the move to remove Bagala as committee head.

Mpuuga and a section of MPs have been at loggerheads with the NUP party secretariat since then.

Meanwhile, Bagala stated that she will be vying for the NUP ticket in the upcoming elections as she is ready to defend her MP seat.
