President Yoweri Museveni has announced the temporary suspension of both Cabinet and Parliamentary business to allow full participation in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) village-level elections scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

In a message shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Museveni called on all NRM members to take part in the internal party elections, urging them to assemble at their respective village centres by 10 a.m. The day’s agenda will include the verification of registered NRM members and the selection of party flag-bearers for Local Council I (LCI) chairpersons and other grassroots leadership roles.

“These exercises will be conducted strictly between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., under the supervision of the NRM Electoral Commission,” Museveni said, emphasizing the importance of transparency and inclusivity in the process.

He further revealed that he would personally oversee the activities in Rwakitura, while First Lady Janet Museveni will be in Ntungamo Ireenga. While affirming his presence, the President made it clear that he would remain neutral in the actual voting process. “As chairman of the NRM, I cannot take sides. I welcome any choice made by our members,” he stated.

Museveni confirmed that the weekly Cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday, May 5, will not take place. Additionally, he said he had reached an agreement with Speaker of Parliament Anita Among to cancel the Parliamentary sitting slated for Tuesday, May 6.

The internal party electoral roadmap began with expressions of interest and nominations from April 24 to 30, followed by campaign activities that ran from May 1 to 5.
