Electoral Commission is set to conclude the nationwide display of the National Voters Register this Thursday, May 15, as part of preparations for the 2025–2026 General Elections. The exercise, which began on April 25, is taking place at all polling stations across the country.

During the display period, which runs daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including weekends, voters are encouraged to verify the accuracy of their details on the register. Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, emphasized that the exercise is crucial for confirming the correctness of voter particulars, ensuring each voter’s photograph appears next to the correct information, and providing an opportunity for the public to raise objections to any inaccuracies.

Voters are also urged to report individuals who should not appear on the register, including those who are deceased, under 18 years of age, registered in the wrong parish, or appear more than once. Any eligible voter who previously applied for registration but finds their details missing on the register may also request to be included.

Justice Byabakama called on all stakeholders to actively participate, stressing that safeguarding the integrity of elections is a collective responsibility. He also announced that following the main display, a supplementary list of individuals recommended for deletion from the register will be displayed from May 16 to May 26, 2025, at each Parish or Ward Headquarters. This additional step allows individuals who believe they were wrongly recommended for removal to appeal to the respective Parish or Ward Tribunal.

These tribunals, appointed by the local magistrate, are composed of five members—two elders (one male and one female, each aged 60 or above) and three additional members selected in consultation with political parties and organizations participating in the elections.

Justice Byabakama reminded the public that the display process plays a decisive role in determining voter eligibility on election day. No fresh applications for registration or transfer of voting location will be accepted during this period. Display officers will remain stationed at each polling station for the entire duration of the exercise to assist voters, especially those affected by recent polling station reorganizations.

The exercise is being conducted with full transparency, allowing the participation and observation of political party agents and any interested members of the public. Any complaints arising from the process should be addressed to the respective district Returning Officers.
