Makerere University Guild President James Churchill Ssentamu, son of Fred Nyanzi, alias Chairman Nyanzi—Bobi Wine’s brother—has hinted at offering himself for a political position, a parliamentary seat to be particular, in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Galaxy TV, Churchill shared that he is waiting for divine guidance before officially pursuing a parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections. He expressed confidence that he hopes to be in Parliament as a legislator by next year.

When asked which constituency he intends to represent, Churchill said he would reveal that at the appropriate time. However, he made it clear that he will not be running in Kawempe South, as his father plans to contest for that seat.

“I have a decision to make, but I don’t believe Parliament is beyond my reach. If it is God’s will, I will move forward. I have the desire to run in the upcoming 2026 elections,” he affirmed.

In April this year, Churchill faced backlash after taking a photo with President Yoweri Museveni. In his defence, Churchill said he understood the anger of those criticizing him, but the photo moment was not meant to express any political allegiance.

He further explained why he could not turn down the photo opportunity, saying he represents over 45,000 students with diverse political minds and beliefs.

Churchill also stated that he was still a member of the National Unity Platform, as no one had suspended him from the party despite running as an independent candidate after NUP’s pressure group, People Power, endorsed Ismail Basalirwa as their candidate in the guild race.
