Former NBS TV news anchor Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa has said that he will not stand as an independent candidate if the National Unity Platform (NUP) Election Management Committee does not give him the party ticket for the Nansana Municipality Member of Parliament seat.

Speaking in an interview, Zambaali said he joined the struggle for the liberation of Uganda and chose to do so through NUP, as he believes in the direction of the party.

According to Zambaali, he picked up expression of interest forms and was duly nominated, meaning he is ready to accept the outcome of the race for the party ticket.

“I will not stand as an independent if my party decides that I am not the best candidate to represent the people of Nansana. I joined active politics for the common goal of pushing for change,” Zambaali said.

He added, “I believe in the party’s process, and I am willing to go by its decision.”

The journalist-turned-politician said he will support whoever the party gives the flag to, without any complaints.

The race for the NUP ticket in Nansana Municipality has attracted formidable contenders: incumbent MP Wakayima Musoke, who is seeking re-election after completing his first term, and Ibrahim Mayanja, popularly known as Big Eye StarBoss, who said, “I have a 90% chance of winning the NUP primaries and securing the party ticket.”

The outcome of the NUP primaries will set the stage for a high-stakes general election in Nansana, one of the most politically vibrant constituencies in the country.
