President Yoweri Museveni has attributed the underdevelopment of many parts of Kampala to the continued dominance of opposition politicians in the city’s leadership.

He made the remarks while launching his Wealth Creation and Parish Development Model (PDM) monitoring tour in Wakiso District.

Addressing residents, Museveni said that decades of support for opposition figures have left many city dwellers trapped in poverty and neglected by their leaders.

“The reason for the many ghettos and the challenges you face is because you have been misled for over 30 years by voting for opposition politicians,” Museveni said. “You chose leaders like Ssebagala, Ssebaana Kizito, and now Bobi Wine—none of whom truly care about your development.”

He criticised the elected opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) for failing to advocate for government services and programmes on behalf of their constituents.

“You praise people like Afande Ddamulira and Kutesa for coming here and engaging with you, but what are your MPs doing? They continue to earn government salaries without ever demanding your share of government resources,” Museveni added. “They don’t push for accountability. The money meant for you is often lost, and they say nothing.”

The President urged Kampala residents to reflect on their voting patterns and to choose leaders who are willing to work in partnership with the central government to deliver services.

“I support you, but I’m a bit far from you. You need MPs who are close and who truly care. In the next election, vote for leaders who will fight for your share and work to transform your communities,” he said.
