The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has revealed that his son, Ruhamya Kainerugaba, is now officially serving in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) with the rank of Private.

“I’m extremely happy to announce that after 31 years in God’s Army, the UPDF, God has blessed the House of Museveni with another soldier as of last month,” Gen Muhoozi posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“Private Ruhamya Kainerugaba, may Almighty God bless him as He did me.”

In the UPDF, the rank of Private is the lowest enlisted rank and serves as the entry point for soldiers beginning their military careers. According to the revised salary structure, a Private earns approximately Shs606,598.75 per month.

Promotion from the rank of Private requires meeting several key criteria, including strong job performance, successful completion of required training courses, and good conduct. The army also considers available positions (usability) and the soldier’s overall discipline and character when deciding on promotions.
