Police in Nansana have launched an investigation into the murder of a mobile money agent, Rose Kyamazima, who was killed during a violent robbery on the night of Monday, 28 July 2025.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the incident occurred at around 9:40 p.m. in Nansana East I ‘B’ Zone, Wakiso District.

Preliminary findings indicate that Kyamazima was ambushed by three unidentified men riding on a motorcycle. The assailants reportedly trailed her after she made a cash deposit at a nearby bank and was on her way home aboard a motorcycle taxi.

“They followed her to a point near her residence, then violently confronted her,” Onyango said. “The boda boda rider fled the scene, leaving the victim at the mercy of the attackers. Despite trying to escape, she was overpowered and fatally stabbed.”

The assailants made off with her ATM card, two smartphones, a small button phone, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police responded quickly after receiving distress calls from residents. Officers secured the scene and transported the body to the city mortuary for a postmortem examination. A manhunt for the suspects is now underway.

This incident adds to a growing wave of violent crimes targeting mobile money agents across the country.

Police records show that since January 2025, at least 62 such attacks have been reported—more than 20 of them in Wakiso District alone.

A recent police crime report revealed that mobile money-related robberies now account for 12% of all aggravated robbery cases reported in the first half of 2025, a sharp rise from 8% during the same period in 2024.

Authorities are urging mobile money operators and other cash-handling businesspeople to vary their routines, use secure transport options, and avoid travelling with large sums of money during late hours.

“The safety of our citizens is paramount,” Onyango said. “We appeal for vigilance and cooperation from the public as we hunt down the perpetrators of this heinous crime.”
