The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has confirmed the arrest of a fraudster who had been masquerading as a high-ranking military officer under the alias “General Isa,” swindling billions of shillings from unsuspecting foreign investors.

Col Chris Magezi, Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, issued a public fraud alert on Wednesday, cautioning both the Ugandan public and international partners about the elaborate scam.

“Fraud alert: The public is hereby informed that the notorious conman pictured below, who calls himself ‘General Isa,’ has been arrested by security services,” Col Magezi announced.

According to the UPDF, the suspect—whose true identity has not yet been revealed—used the fake military persona to lure foreign investors into fraudulent deals. He reportedly promised lucrative government contracts and military-affiliated investment opportunities to his victims.

“He has conned several foreign investors out of billions by pretending to be a UPDF General. He will face prosecution in accordance with the law,” Magezi stated.

The UPDF further clarified that the impersonator has never held any position within the military and warned that anyone engaging in similar criminal schemes will be brought to justice.

Security agencies have launched a wider investigation, working with embassies and affected individuals to uncover the full extent of the fraud. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report anyone claiming military connections for business dealings.
