As Uganda continues to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has announced a series of traffic management measures starting this afternoon, Monday, 4th August, to ease movement for teams, officials, and fans ahead of today’s key matches.

At 5:00 PM, Niger will take on Guinea, followed by Uganda Cranes’ highly anticipated clash against Algeria at 8:00 PM — both at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Key Details of the Traffic Management Plan:

Main Routes Affected

To prioritise safe and smooth passage for teams and dignitaries, the following major routes will be affected:

Kampala–Entebbe Expressway → Northern Bypass → Bwaise Interchange

Kubiri Roundabout → Mulago Traffic Lights → Yusuf Lule Road

Kira Road Police Station → Bukoto Road

Kalerwe Interchange → Kisaasi Roundabout

Naalya Interchange → Namboole Interchange → Mandela National Stadium

Busega Roundabout → Nateete Traffic Lights → Kabusu → Wankulukuku

Mulago → Wandegeya → Makerere Hill Road → Nakulabye → Balintuma Road

Jinja Road Traffic Lights (Punjani) → Kyambogo Junction → Ministry of Works

Diversions & Cut-off Points (Effective from 12:00 PM Today)

Traffic diversions will be enforced from midday and only activated when needed, particularly when matches are ongoing:

Trucks will be diverted at Kalerwe Interchange to use Gayaza–Kalagi–Mukono route.

All vehicles will be diverted at Naalya Interchange toward Kyaliwajjala–Ssonde–Seeta.

Bweyogerere-bound vehicles will be diverted via Jokas Hotel to Kinawataka Road.

Kinawataka Road will have a cut-off at Hared Petrol Station, restricting access to Kireka Trading Centre.

Kireka–Nasanga Junction to Jokas Hotel Road will be a pedestrian-only zone.

Parking Arrangements

VIP-accredited vehicles only will be allowed to park at Southern Playground Wing.

General public parking is at Bweyogerere Police Station Playground.

All VIPs must clearly display their parking stickers for easy access.

Security and Enforcement

Traffic Police will be stationed along all routes to guide motorists and ensure the safe movement of teams and match officials.

Convoys for teams and dignitaries will be escorted by lead vehicles.

Motorists are urged to plan their movements early, obey traffic officers, and remain patient and disciplined on the roads.

These measures aim to guarantee the safe and smooth execution of CHAN 2024 matchdays, especially as Uganda Cranes aim to make history on home soil. Fans heading to Namboole are advised to travel early and use alternative routes where possible.
