A 24-year-old clinical officer has been arrested after publicly confessing to killing a 45-year-old woman in a Kabale lodge.

The suspect, Clinton Mwesiime — attached to Hamurwa Health Centre IV in Hamurwa Town Council, Rubanda District, and a resident of Mitooma District — was arrested on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at a church in Nakawa, Kampala.

According to police, Mwesiime stood before the congregation, requested to be prayed for, and admitted to killing Leonada Kobusingye, a resident of Hataaba Village, Shebeya Parish, Hamurwa Sub-County in Rubanda District.

Kobusingye’s body was discovered on July 30, 2025, in a room at Cheers Pub and Accommodation, located behind the former Equity Bank building in Kabale Municipality. She had four stab wounds to the chest and stomach.

Investigations reveal that she had checked into the lodge the previous evening under the name Allen Orishaba, accompanied by a man who identified himself only as Julius. The two claimed they had travelled from Katuna, a Uganda–Rwanda border town in Kabale District.

The grisly discovery was made around 9:51 a.m. the next day by a lodge attendant during routine cleaning. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was found next to the body, along with an unused HIV/syphilis testing kit and a syringe.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate said Mwesiime was first detained at Jinja Road Police Station before being transferred on Wednesday to Kabale Police Station, where the crime took place, for further investigations.

Police say Mwesiime claimed he killed Kobusingye after she became pregnant, refused to have an abortion, and demanded marriage. He allegedly told investigators that he feared public ridicule for marrying an older woman, and his anger intensified after learning she was HIV positive.

Maate confirmed that Mwesiime will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
