Uganda is 63 years old but still operating like a nation in its teenage years—Mugisha Muntu

Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) flag bearer, Mugisha Muntu, has been officially nominated as a presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections.

The announcement was made by Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, at the Commission’s headquarters in Lubowa, Kampala. Justice Byabakama confirmed that Muntu had successfully fulfilled all the statutory requirements for nomination.

The Commission further instructed Muntu’s campaign team to promptly submit a detailed schedule of campaign rallies and media engagements to enable the harmonisation of presidential candidates’ programmes nationwide.

Delivering his post-nomination address, Muntu reflected on Uganda’s trajectory, saying that although the country is 63 years post-independence, it continues to operate “like a nation in its teenage years.”

He emphasised that significant reforms are needed to steer the country in the right direction.

“There is no reason why a country like Uganda, blessed with minerals and abundant fresh water, should remain trapped in poverty,” Muntu said.

He underscored that his top priority would be the establishment of sustainable peace.

“Peace is not merely the absence of war; it is the presence of justice. Sadly, injustice has become deeply entrenched,” he noted.

Muntu further stressed that his political mission extends beyond personal ambition.

“I keep telling people, even if I never become president of this country, if I can work with like-minded Ugandans to build a political vehicle that truly transforms this nation, I will leave this world as fulfilled as if I had become president,” he declared.
