The Electoral Commission (EC) has held a consultative meeting with representatives of all eight duly nominated presidential candidates to harmonise campaign programmes and avoid clashes during the 2026 election period.

The session, chaired by EC Secretary Richard Kamugisha Baabo, brought together campaign agents from across the political spectrum, including Robert Centenary (Forum for Democratic Change – FDC), Rovans Lwanyaga (National Unity Platform – NUP), and Moses Byaruhanga, who represented the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President Yoweri Museveni.

Senior police officers also attended the meeting to advise on security measures and ensure smooth coordination of campaign activities. Discussions mainly centred on allocating venues and dates to prevent overlapping rallies and potential confrontations among rival supporters.

The engagement follows the official conclusion of nominations on 24 September, during which eight candidates were cleared to contest for Uganda’s highest office. They include incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (NRM), Nathan Nandala Mafabi (FDC), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (NUP), Gregory Mugisha Muntu (Alliance for National Transformation), Mubarak Munyagwa (Common Man’s Party), Elton Joseph Mabirizi (Conservative Party), Frank Kabinga Bulira (Revolutionary People’s Party), and Robert Kasibante (National Peasants Party).

EC spokesperson Julius Muchunguzi said the commission is now focused on designing and printing ballot papers, while also ensuring campaigns are conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner.
