National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has promised to bring an end to Uganda’s era of long-serving leaders, declaring that President Yoweri Museveni will be the last to rule the country for more than four decades.

While addressing a charged crowd at a campaign rally in Hoima City on Wednesday, Bobi Wine pledged to restore presidential term limits and reinforce democratic institutions to guarantee peaceful and regular transitions of power.

“Museveni will be the last dictator Uganda ever sees,” Bobi Wine told his supporters amid thunderous applause. “We shall not have leaders who stay in power for 40 years. We will restore term limits and build a Uganda where power truly belongs to the people.”

The opposition leader said his administration would prioritise rebuilding weakened national institutions, promoting transparency, and restoring citizens’ rights and freedoms that he said had been eroded during years of one-man rule.

Outlining his vision for a “New Uganda,” Bobi Wine said his government would focus on expanding social services, tackling inequality, and improving education.

“In the New Uganda, every child will have access to quality education,” he said. “We will introduce free education and a national school feeding programme so that no child studies on an empty stomach or drops out because of poverty.”

He also promised greater investment in infrastructure, saying all major roads across the country would be tarmacked under his leadership.

Bobi Wine urged Ugandans to rally behind his campaign for democratic renewal and social justice, saying the 2026 elections present a chance to reclaim the nation’s future.

“This struggle is for freedom, fairness, and the future of our children,” he said. “We are fighting to build a Uganda that works for everyone—not just a small group that has held power for decades.”
