Residents of Mwererwe Village in Gombe Division, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, have staged a protest over a foul smell coming from a piggery farm owned by Pastor Jackson Senyonga of Christian Life Church in Bwaise, Kampala.

Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga.

According to the agitated residents who stormed the farm, they have repeatedly tried to engage the pastor about the stench, but he has allegedly insisted that they should instead sell their land to him and leave the area.

The residents, led by their chairperson Ssebale Ssekatte, claim that more than 500 pigs recently died at the farm but were neither buried nor disposed of properly. They say the smell from the decomposing animals has become unbearable, forcing some business owners to close because customers can no longer stand the stench.

They further allege that during the rainy season, contaminated water from the farm flows into the village well, a situation they fear could trigger an outbreak of diseases.

In anger, the residents broke into the farm, destroyed makeshift piggery structures, and set them ablaze.

The community is now calling for urgent intervention from higher authorities, including the President.
