The Electoral Commission has said it is ready to conduct the Local Government Council elections scheduled for today, assuring voters that all preparations are complete.
According to EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, the elections will cover key local leadership positions, including district chairpersons, mayors and councillors.
He explained that the Commission will not deploy biometric voters’ verification machines for this exercise, instead relying on printed voters’ registers to confirm voter eligibility.
Mucunguzi noted that all voting materials have already been delivered to districts across the country. Polling stations will open at 8:00am and close at 4:00pm, after which counting will be done and results announced at the respective district tally centres.
Attention is expected to focus heavily on Kampala, where the race for Lord Mayor has attracted wide public interest.
The contest features incumbent Erias Lukwago of the People’s Front for Freedom, Beatrice Nambi Mao of the Democratic Party, Ronald Balimwezo of the National Unity Platform, and Moses Kizito Nsubuga from the ruling National Resistance Movement.
