Former KCCA FC head coach Mike Hillary Mutebi has reportedly gone missing, raising concern among family members, friends and the wider football community.

Information circulating online indicates that the veteran coach left his home in Kawempe, a suburb of Kampala, under unclear circumstances. Since then, his whereabouts have not been confirmed.

People close to Mutebi say he appeared troubled shortly before leaving the residence. However, by Monday morning there had been no official communication from authorities explaining what may have happened.

His disappearance has unsettled many in Uganda’s football fraternity, where Mutebi is regarded as one of the country’s most respected and influential coaches.

Mutebi built his reputation largely during his successful time at KCCA FC, especially between 2016 and 2021 when he guided the club through one of the most successful periods in its history.

During that spell, the Lugogo-based side won three titles in the Uganda Premier League, two domestic cups, four Super Cups and the regional CECAFA Clubs Cup.

He also led the club to historic performances on the continental stage. KCCA became the first Ugandan team to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League in 2018 and later competed strongly in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Beyond KCCA, Mutebi coached several other clubs including SC Villa and Rwanda’s AS Kigali. He also briefly served as head coach of the Uganda national football team in 2004.
