The Ministry of Works and Transport has confirmed that major maintenance works on the Kampala Northern Bypass will restart this week, a move expected to cause temporary traffic disruptions.
According to a notice issued on February 9, 2026, the repairs will begin on February 13 and are projected to run for at least two months. The works will focus on Phase One of the bypass, a key route linking several parts of the city.
The affected stretch lies between the Bwaise and Namungoona interchanges. During this period, Stirling Civil Engineering Ltd, the contractor hired by the ministry, will carry out extensive repairs, including stripping off the old asphalt, preparing the road base, applying a prime coat, and laying a fresh asphalt surface.
To allow the works to proceed safely, the ministry said the impacted section of the road will be completely closed, with traffic redirected to the opposite carriageway. Motorists using the bypass should therefore expect diversions, slower movement, and possible delays.
Drivers have been advised to follow road signs, heed instructions from traffic officers on site, and remain patient as the works continue. The ministry has also encouraged road users to plan their trips in advance and, where possible, use alternative routes away from the Northern Bypass to ease congestion.
While apologising for the inconvenience, the Ministry of Works and Transport said the maintenance is essential to improve the condition of the road and ensure a smoother, safer driving experience once the works are completed.
