The key suspect in the killing of Pamela Tumwebaze, the Dean of Students at Uganda Christian University, has been returned to her Mukono home for a police crime-scene reconstruction aimed at establishing how the murder was carried out.
The suspect, Hussein Dak Taewaiko, was on Wednesday escorted to the residence by a joint security team comprising the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce.
Investigators used the exercise to verify his statement and reconstruct the sequence of events on the day of the killing.
During the reenactment at the home in Mukono, detectives said the suspect demonstrated how he approached the property, scaled the perimeter wall after being denied entry at the gate, and entered the house unnoticed.
He told investigators that he hid inside for several hours, waiting for Tumwebaze to return in the evening.
According to his account, he later confronted her in the bedroom, claiming she owed him Shs800,000 in unpaid wages from work he had done at the home between September and December 2025.
He had previously worked there as a casual labourer for about six months before leaving the job.
The suspect alleges that a struggle followed when she threatened to raise an alarm, leading to her death.
However, people close to the deceased have disputed the claim of unpaid wages, saying she was known for paying her workers on time.
Police have not confirmed a motive and say investigations are still ongoing.
Taewaiko was arrested in Budaka District, where security operatives tracked him to a hideout. He was reportedly found in possession of a mobile phone believed to belong to the deceased.
He is expected to be produced in court later this week as prosecutors prepare to file formal charges.
