Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested a suspected robber accused of targeting bank customers and stealing their money using motorcycles.

The suspect, identified as Wagaba Hussen, a 27-year-old resident of Kayunga in Wakiso District, was arrested on March 6, 2026, following an attempted robbery in Najjera.

According to police, the victim, Nakawomne Deborah, also aged 27, had withdrawn Shs21 million from a bank in Ntinda before hiring a boda boda to return to her home in Buwaate.

However, when they reached Najjera, a few metres from the police station opposite Stabex International School, another motorcycle approached at high speed. The passenger reportedly grabbed the woman’s bag containing the money.

The victim immediately raised an alarm, attracting the attention of police officers nearby who quickly responded to the scene.

During the operation, the motorcycle rider managed to escape due to heavy traffic, which made it unsafe for officers to pursue him. However, the passenger who had grabbed the bag was arrested on the spot and the Shs21 million was recovered.

The suspect is currently being held at Najjera Police Station as investigations continue. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest his accomplice.
