Edith Katende Mufumbiro, wife of National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, has died.
According to Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, the party president, Edith passed away shortly after 3:00am following a prolonged battle with cancer.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear sister and comrade, Edith Katende Mufumbiro, the wife of our Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro,” Bobi Wine said in a statement shared on his social media platforms.
He added, “Edith passed on after 3:00am today following a hard-fought battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, her husband Waiswa remains detained at Luzira Upper Prison for no crime whatsoever. His only crime is speaking out against injustice and misrule.”
Waiswa, together with other NUP members, remains on remand at Luzira Prison, where they are facing charges of unlawful drilling, conspiracy to commit a felony, and wearing uniforms resembling those of security forces.
