Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze has moved to clear the air after his recent appearance sparked debate online, with many questioning his noticeably slimmer look.
Photos taken during the NRM caucus retreat at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi quickly circulated on social media, drawing mixed reactions. While some supporters expressed concern and sent messages wishing him a quick recovery, others made light of his weight loss, fueling speculation about his health.
Responding to the public chatter, Tumwebaze dismissed claims that he is unwell, explaining that his transformation is the result of intentional lifestyle changes. He emphasized that his weight loss is a conscious effort to improve his health, not a sign of illness.
Using the moment to raise awareness, the minister warned against common misconceptions about body size, arguing that many people wrongly associate being overweight with good health and being slim with sickness. He pointed out that such thinking undermines the fight against non-communicable diseases, which continue to pose a major health risk.

Tumwebaze explained that weight loss should only raise concern when it is sudden, unexplained, or linked to underlying medical conditions. However, he stressed that losing weight through controlled dieting, increased physical activity, and healthier living should be seen as a positive achievement rather than a cause for alarm.
He reassured those who had reached out to him that he is in good health, noting that his new appearance may simply be unfamiliar to those used to his previous look. The minister added that maintaining a healthy body should be a goal worth pursuing, making it clear that his transformation is something he takes pride in, not something to worry about.
