The Tooro Kingdom has announced that the keys to Karuziika Palace, the official residence of the Omukama (King) of Tooro, are missing.
The revelation was made on 15 September 2026 by Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi, head of the Babiito Royal Clan, during a sitting of the Orukurato, the Tooro Kingdom’s Supreme Council, at Muchwa Headquarters in Fort Portal City.
Kamurasi also formally declared Crown Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo before the Orukurato, paving the way for the Babiito Royal Clan to begin preparations for his coronation.
The announcement comes weeks after the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, who died in August 2026 after battling cancer.
Following Oyo’s death, the Babiito Royal Clan selected his cousin, former UBC TV journalist Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, as his successor.
The succession process has, however, been contested by some members of the royal family, including Princess Ruth Komuntale, who has questioned the validity of the selection.
With Edward’s declaration before the Orukurato, the Babiito Royal Clan is now expected to proceed with preparations for his installation as the new Omukama.
