The government plans to send all Senior Six vacists in Uganda to the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi for a six-month patriotism training programme.
The programme is intended to promote discipline, patriotism, national identity and a sense of responsibility among young people.
Hellen Seku, Commissioner at the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC), said the programme will start this year and will bring together Senior Six vacists from across the country.
Seku announced the plan on Sunday at Immaculate Heart Girls’ Secondary School Nyakibale in Rukungiri District, where more than 1,700 students from four schools completed a week-long patriotism training programme.
She said the decision was agreed upon with President Yoweri Museveni and that the students will spend about six months at NALI in Kyankwanzi.

“I can assure you, head teacher, we are going to begin this year. So, this year we agreed with Jaaja (President Museveni) that all Senior Six vacists are going to Kyankwanzi. You’re going to go for about six months,” Seku said.
The government will also require school patrons, coordinators, teachers and head teachers who have not undergone patriotism training to attend refresher courses.
Seku said the move is intended to ensure that school staff involved in patriotism programmes have the necessary training.
“All patrons and coordinators are going to do a refresher course, including teachers and head teachers who have not yet trained, even those who have taken long. We want everybody to undergo the training,” she said.
