Police in Kamuli District are hunting for a 38-year-old pastor accused of beating his 10-year-old son to death for attending a Primary Seven leavers’ party at a nearby school.
The suspect, identified as Robert Muwanguzi, is a pastor at Universal Apostles Fellowship Church of Righteousness. He reportedly fled after the incident, leaving his wife, who has since been arrested.
According to the police, Muwanguzi and his 30-year-old wife, Allen Kwagala, accused their son, Michael Tubone, a Primary Four pupil at Lulyambuzi Primary School, of attending an overnight leavers’ party where they believed people engaged in sinful activities.
Busoga North Region Police spokesperson Samson Lubega said the incident happened on Sunday morning after the parents questioned the boy about where he had spent the night.
Information gathered from residents indicates that the child was found in a toilet and was asked to explain why he had attended the party and gone against the family’s religious beliefs.
Police said the parents allegedly subjected him to severe beatings, including punches and kicks to the lower abdomen, after he failed to give a satisfactory explanation. The boy eventually collapsed.
His parents rushed him to Lulyambuzi Health Centre III, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Muwanguzi reportedly fled after realising that his son had died, while his wife was arrested and detained at Kamuli Central Police Station as investigations into the incident continued.
