IGP Ochola orders officers to stop arrest of boda-boda riders and taxi drivers, makes reshuffles in the traffic police

In true hakuna mchezo spirit, Inspector General of Police, Mr Martins Okoth-Ochola, yesterday before announcing the reshuffle of 23 traffic officers in the Kampala Metropolitan Police, he ordered officers to stop arrest boda-boda riders and taxi drivers countrywide.

He explained that he has  received over 500 complaints pinning his officers for extortion under the disguise of  implementing the law.

He further stated that all the complaints rotated mainly in the Kampala Metropolitan with regional traffic commanders the biggest culprits. Ochola also ordered the Director of traffic police, Dr. Stephen Kasiima to investigate 113 police officers allegedly implicated in more than 500 extortion complaints.

He  made immediate transfers of officers that included; ASP Tom Mpabaisi has been transferred from Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) to Sipi as RTO, ASP Sam Mugabi from Kawempe to Albertine as RTO, ASP Dickson Odongo from Kira Division to Ntungamo as OC, ASP Elia Kamugisha from Old Kampala to Bugiri as OC, ASP Caroline Angeyo from Wandegeya to Mpigi as OC and ASP Reinhold Rwakarenzi from Kabalagala to Mubende among others.
