Bugonya Church of Uganda in Kayunga District, has experienced an exodus of its members following an incident where a couple was caught engaging in sexual activities near the church altar.
Eyewitnesses and residents in the vicinity of the church reported that the incident took place on Tuesday evening at approximately 8 pm. The individuals involved were not members of the church but had managed to sneak into the church.
According to George William Kanda, the Chairman of Bugonya Village, the couple managed to enter the church through the windows as the doors were closed at the time.
The church leaders expressed their dismay over the incident. They initiated a period of fasting and prayer to seek spiritual cleansing.
Additionally, plans are underway to organize a ceremony where clergy members from the district will gather to offer prayers for the church, aiming to restore its sanctity before resuming regular operations.
