The MTN Kampala Marathon is back on Sunday November 20 at Kololo Airstrip starting from 8am. The event which is one of the biggest on Uganda’s sporting calendar is in its 13th edition and has attracted more than 18,000 participants already. They will race in three different categories; Full marathon (42.195km), Half marathon (21km) as well as the 10km road race. Kenya’s Eliud Cheptei won the 2015 full marathon in an event where Kenyan runners were dominant.

The theme for this year’s event is “Run for Kampala”, and the mobile telecom company will use the proceeds from the marathon to improve sanitation facilities for school pupils through the construction of environmentally friendly smart bio-toilet facilities. This effort will focus on selected public primary schools in the outskirts Kampala and will be undertaken in partnership with the Kampala Capital City Authority.

This year’s tickets go for only Shs25,000 and participants will also receive a free bag, cap, bib and a bandana. It is not yet too late to book yourself a ticket; visit Stanbic Bank – William Street Branch, MTN service centers at Lugogo Shoprite, Forest and Victoria (Entebbe) malls, or the MTN shops along Kampala Road and Kyaggwe Road. Tickets are also available for purchase directly from the MTN Mobile Money menu.
